An abstracted study of topography, this piece reflects the color and texture of land, soil and water. An uneven surface contrasted against an even, balanced graduation of color.

As part of a heavily layered process, I first painted a brightly colored navy blue base, then masked that base with a thin layer of plaster, and worked the plaster to create a textured surface. I then scrubbed away the plaster to reveal hints of the base color, exposing tones thinly veiled in the remaining plaster. Lastly, I applied gold, rust and earthy stains to the plastered surface to bring the piece to life and accentuate the tactile surface.
