The word that I would use to describe this is ‘nuanced.’ It is a very delicate, romantic, subtle, and nuanced piece. The stained surface suggests an antiquated, almost fabric-like feel.
I achieved this look by applying a very light layer of plaster over a stained canvas base using greens and blues, and then the plaster was scrubbed away until the undertones were subtly hinted at beneath the veil of plaster.
